Fulton Allen, widely know as Blind |
Baby, Quit Your Low Down Ways was recorded in 1939 in Memphis by Fulton Allen (1907-1941), who recorded and performed under the name Blind Boy Fuller. A native of Wadesboro, North Carolina, Allen eventually settled in the tobacco town of Durham, performing primarily in the streets. Allen recorded many 78 sides during the Great Depression of the 1930s, a sign of his popularity. In our version of the song, Gregg plays the main guitar part, with a fine 12-string guitar accompaniment by John Bradshaw. Fuller played his tradmark National steel guitar on the original recording, and we've also performed it with a National, most notably on a recreated radio show at Durham's Duke Homestead State Historic Site. |
